This is the word that caused me to switch sides and determine that the Central Park 5 were liars. On stage during a New York Times panel interview, Kevin Richardson lied and said that this is not a word that they used back in 1989. I knew that was false and I wondered why he would lie about it. He tried to make it seem as if police officers made up the term.

Later I received a phone call from friends of the 5 who told me a different story about how that particular word came to be known in their circle. It came to be when Jermaine Robinson (he was one of the 30 or more teens who was with the 5 in the park on April 19th, 1989) beat up a crackhead. And here is Jermaine Robinson’s statement to police officers from 2002.
